The Shalya tantra department is the one among important branch in the field of Ayurvedic science. The teaching faculties of the department are expert in various surgical and parasurgical procedures.
Shalya tantra is clinical department that teaches general surgery in IV professional of BAMS course.
"This department has its own OPD (General Shalya), IPD, Minor operation theatre (Shastra karma, kshara karma, kshara sutra, Agnikarma & Raktamokshana Units) and Major Operation theatre.
Specialised treatment is provided for Arsha and Bhagandatra with kshara karma and kshara sutra therapy;Ghridrasi,Sandivata, Kadara, Vatakantaka, Charmakeela, Avabahuka, Tennis elbow etc.-by Agnikarma,Raktamokshana, MarmaChikitsa and Shalya karma therapies.
The department also provides treatment for Chronic Non healing ulcers, Peripheral vascular disorders by Jalaukavacharan method.
The department is well equipped with all surgical specimens, models, teaching materials, CD's, surgical photos, charts and departmental library books.
The approach of students is also shaped towards the various modern tools and techniques of investigation and latest information regarding the general surgical procedure.
The knowledge of ancient principles of longevity of Ayurveda in regard to surgical and para- surgical concept of disease, their treatment and betterment of patients will also to be taught during their course.
